Buddu Manager Vincent Ziwa is confident that his team will easily humble the Masaza Cup record champions Gomba in the opening game of the 2025 campaign.
With the game coming on Saturday, June 21, Buddu will play host, being the defending champions of the tournament.
With just hours to the match, Buddu Manager Ziwa warned Gomba that the Masaza Cup is not about history, but it is about the current situation.
“On Saturday, we are going to teach Gomba about the current; they made history and they are just history, we are the current and this is our time to rule the Masaza Cup.”
From the history of the competition, defending champions have failed to play well in the title defence but Ziwa is optimistic that Buddu will break the jinx.
“Defending champions always have a bad season is just a mere belief. We have assembled a very strong team, and we kept only six members of the winning squad because that team reached its climax. Now we have new hungry faces. It has been a deliberate move to stage a very different team from that of last season.”
Buddu is the defending champion and has won three trophies, all of which came in the past ten seasons. They have at least managed to reach the semifinals during the span.
For Ggomba, despite being the record champions with five trophies, they have won just a single trophy in the past ten years.
