The 2025 edition of UMEA Solidarity Games brought a big thing to remember for years for Greenlight Islamic Nansana as they bagged their first-ever national sporting trophy.
This first trophy came with a remarkable run after passing several hurdles at the tournament, which had 29 teams playing at Namagabi SS – Kayunga, between 17-21 April 2025.
In the 22-21 high-tension victory against resilient Hamdan Islamic SS in the tournament’s final, history was made and players like Eron Gift stood out with a sublime performance.
Eron made some key steals in providing the game ground a base for link-up between GoalAttack Christine Rebecca Opolot and GoalShooter Esther Kizadde.
Greenlight Islamic beat Kaddugala Secondary School 22-11 in the semifinals.
Earlier, Wilberforce Mazahura charges eliminated hosts Namagabi SS with a 23-17 at the quarterfinals and Masaka SS 28-14 at the Round of 16.
Hamdan Islamic Mukono, who was appearing for their first-ever final, was strongly powered by tournament Most Valuable Player Rosemary Olawa.
In the run, they saw off defending champion Kawanda SS at the quarterfinals with 26-23 and later defeated Kibuli Secondary School by 24-22 at the semifinals.
