Nansana-based Greenlight Secondary School qualified for Nationals for the first time to join teams that have achieved the milestone under Coach Jamada Magasi.
Thomas Kalvin Kawooya scored the only goal of the deciding game against CityLand Matugga using his first touch a few seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Reaching the success which have been on hunt in recent years, Greenlight was guided by Magasi, a coach who helped schools like Kakungulu Memorial, Blessed Sacramental Kimanya, St Julian and Latifah Islamic to secure the first qualification.

On the journey of qualification, Greenlight Islamic won the trophy at Nansana zone before overcoming teams like Andy Mwesigwa Comprehensive, Kajjansi Progressive, Airforce and Kingsway Entebbe.
Greenlight topped Group D with 10 points to qualify for the Round of 16, where they stopped Zana Mixed 2-0, reaching the stage where they sealed a national slot with a 1-0 win over Cityland.
Greenlight Islamic games teacher Hamza Haruna Mukiibi joyously stated: “Alhamdulillah, Allah has enabled us to reach the achievement which we have been working for ever since we started. We have worked for it patiently as an entire school, the Director, the Head teacher, and the parents have been very supportive.”
Goal scorer Kawooya promised this to be the beginning of building a new history behind the school name.
“I feel happy for my entire team, I am also happy that I scored for the entire team. We have worked together to become the first Greenlight team to qualify. Now we are turning our focus on setting new records.”
Head Coach Jamada Magasi also commented: “Ever since I started coaching, I have been able to qualify teams for their first time, now it is Greenlight. I thank my team and the entire school for the support.”
Greenlight Islamic Nansana has replaced London College Nansana while Standard High Zana, St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende and Buddo SS all retained their slots at the National boys football championship.
With four teams already decided, Madina Islamic, after losing a direct slot, turned to search for a fifth slot and they eliminated Kakungulu High by 2-1, thanks to Wennani Khasim’s goals.
Therefore, Madina Islamic shall face Kyandondo SS in the deciding game on Tuesday, with the winner of the clash joining the qualified team to make five teams to represent Wakiso District in Bukedea.
