In the semifinals of the Buganda Schools Championship played on Saturday at Kawanda SS, Greenlight Islamic Nansana and Buddo SS overpowered opponents to set up a historical final.
Greenlight put 4-1 past Standard High Zana to reach their first boys’ football final in any competition that includes schools from their USSSA zone.
Complete player Simon Okwi scored twice, with Elvis Kimuli and Mark Dandal adding the other goals, while Daniel Mugisha netted for Standard High Zana.
Standard High Zana reached their peak in the quarterfinal when they sent St Mary’s SS Kitende home, while Greenlight Islamic eliminated St Andrews Gombe at that stage.
On the other side, running to the final, Buddo SS surpassed Highway SS Kiganda by a 4-0 win. Francis Baraba, Ambrose Aboi, Abaasa Kisambira, and Geofrey Nyonyintono all scored at least a goal to ensure the footballing giant reached the second consecutive final, in Semifinal Buddo Eliminated Kyadondo SS.
In 2025, Buddo SS played to a 1-1 draw in the final and ended up losing 5-3 on penalties. The game was played at Kawanda SS.
Now, on the second attempt, they will take on fellow Wakiso District representatives in the final scheduled for Sunday, March 15, in the late afternoon hours at Kawanda SS.
