Gulu University coach Robert Omonyi has hailed the character of his players after they beat the International University of East Africa (IUEA) 1-0 in Lukuli in Makindye.

“Playing away is not easy. We got our first win for many years but we have been working for it and so, it’s not a surprise. Our opponents wanted to use counterattacks but we managed to understand their plan.”

“This competition is tight and competitive but we have managed to try and give it our best,” noted Omonyi.

Brian Odongo scored late as Gulu picked their first win after a long time. They have now four points in Group E.

St Lawrence is top with 12 points while Nkumba is second with 7 points. IUEA is bottom with two points.

IUEA assistant coach Rashid Kateregga believes they are still in transition and they will improve with time.

“We are building a new team. We hope next season we shall try to add more players to the team and it will be better,” noted Kateregga.
