The rated 2079 chess player won all but one round, the final, which he drew against Wanyama. His triumph was a well deserved one because he had to beat the very best to earn it.

Ssegwanyi, Peter Majur Manyang from South Sudan were among the top guys that fell prey to Nsubuga in the Zabasajja Memorial Championship.

He missed out on this title last year by just a tiebreaker when Rajab Kamoga beat him to it, but he ensured nothing of a sort happens this time. He won by a difference of half a point with 7.5 points.

Ssegwanyi came second with 7 points while Gong completed the podium positions with 6.5 points. Kamoga the 2022 winner finished 15th with just 5.5 points same as Emojong who finished two places higher.

Wanyama meanwhile missed out on a podium finish by a whisker as he finished 5th with 6.5 points.
