- Victoria Sharks 26 -41 Heathens
The battle for Uganda Rugby Premiership glory took a decisive step on Friday evening as defending champions, Heathens, bagged a quarterfinal advantage with an emphatic 41-26 victory over Victoria Sharks.
The win at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds not only demonstrated their championship pedigree but also gave them a significant first-leg push as the playoffs heat up.
From the very first whistle, it was clear that this would be a clash of grit and ambition. Heathens struck first, setting the tone early through a well-worked try by Nickolas Kato, which was calmly converted by the reliable boot of Malcom Okello.

The Sharks, however, were not to be overshadowed so easily. Fueled by the energy of the crowd and the urgency of the moment, they clawed their way back into contention with two sharp penalties before Maurice Ochieng crashed over the try line.
Israel Makhoha added the extras and later slotted in his third penalty of the day to hand the Varsity side a 16-10 halftime lead.
With their backs against the wall, the Heathens returned from the break like a side reborn. Their second-half performance was a masterclass in pressure rugby and tactical execution.
Joseph Oyet led the charge with two unconverted tries that turned the tide. As the Sharks struggled to regroup, Heathens turned the screw further.
Norbert Okeny and Aaron Ofoyrwoth each added tries to the scoreboard, both converted by the ever accurate Okello not forgetting Sylvester Munguacel’s try which was converted by Ofoyrwoth to put the icing on the cake.
Although the Sharks managed one more converted try and a final Makhoha penalty in the closing stages, it was not enough to withstand the attacking waves of the record champions. Heathens walked off the pitch with their heads high and one foot firmly planted in the semifinals.
The Uganda Rugby Premiership quarterfinal drama continues next Saturday, with more explosive matchups lined up.
