Abashweki Football Club and Heathens Rugby Football Club have announced a strategic partnership aimed at promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration, talent development and community engagement.
Abashweki, the most decorated team in the Ntare Lions League with championship wins in Seasons 6, 9, and 11, joins forces with Heathens RFC, Uganda’s most successful rugby club.
Since its founding in 1999, Heathens has claimed a record 17 Rugby Premiership titles, including their most recent in 2024, along with a recent Uganda Cup victory.
The newly formed alliance between the two sporting giants is designed to bridge the divide between football and rugby through shared resources, training methodologies and organizational expertise.
“This partnership is more than just a collaboration, it’s a fusion of passion, discipline, and a shared vision for uplifting Ugandan sports,” said a representative from Abashweki.

Both clubs have long-standing community roots. Abashweki, formed by alumni of Ntare School, is known for fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among former students.
Heathens RFC, based at Kyadondo Rugby Club, has been a key player in grassroots rugby development across the country.
The partnership is expected to yield a series of joint initiatives, including youth training camps, inter-sport events, and community outreach programs.
These efforts aim to inspire greater youth participation across sports disciplines, breaking down traditional barriers between football and rugby.
With their combined legacy of excellence and commitment to community, Abashweki and Heathens RFC are set to redefine the future of Ugandan sports.
This union not only symbolizes unity across different fields but also serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of collaboration.
