Heathens Rugby Football Club’s season in the Uganda Rugby Premiership has taken a sharp downturn following a string of disappointing results.

The defending champions have suffered three consecutive losses, including two away defeats against Black Pirates and KOBs.

Their latest setback came in the Kyadondo Derby, where they fell narrowly to Buffaloes 21-20.

Compounding their struggles, Heathens have been missing key players, including captain Norbert Okeny, who was engaged in the HSBC World Cup Challenger series in South Africa.

The squad’s woes deepened over the weekend when prop Emmanuel Byamugisha suffered a fractured fibula during the high-intensity match against Buffaloes.

Byamugisha’s injury occurred after a heavy collision, leaving him in visible pain. Medical personnel quickly attended to him, confirming a fracture in the lower third of his fibula.

The club has since announced that he will require surgery, with medical steps already in place to stabilize his condition ahead of the procedure.

Losing a player of Byamugisha’s calibre is a significant blow to Heathens, as his physicality and leadership have been crucial to the team’s structure.

His extended absence will force adjustments within the squad as they attempt to reverse their current slump.

Despite their struggles, Heathens remain hopeful. In an official statement, the club expressed confidence in Byamugisha’s recovery, calling him a warrior who will fight through the injury like the champion he is.

With a challenging season ahead, the team must rally together and find a way to bounce back from their current woes.
