The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) will yet again hold a girl-child-focused basketball camp on Saturday, November 23, 2024, dubbed “Her World, Her Rules”.
The campaign is the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) most recognized women’s initiative stemming from the strategic objective to increase participation of women in the sport.
This year’s event will take place at St Agatha Girls’ School in Kakore, Rubanda district, Western Uganda and it will be implemented by the FUBA with the support of iCARRe Foundation/Hoop Dreams and Edu-Aid Africa.
The camp (Welcome to My World) aims at introducing basketball skills to a target group of over 60 girls between the ages of 6-16 years and imparting life skills that will boost their confidence and empower them to challenge gender inequality in the community.
Her World Her Rules project is an opportunity to create transformative experiences for young girls in Rubanda by introducing basketball to the region and advocating for sports as a choice. We aim to inspire and equip these girls to achieve their full potential – Rachael Ainamasiko (Commissioner for Women’s Basketball – FUBA).
In line with FUBA’s 2024 theme “Sports as a Choice” and partners, the campaign will encourage girls to embrace basketball as a pathway for personal development and academic success while impacting the community.
Activities of the program will include basketball skills training and introduction to the game, training of trainers’ courses for officials, referees and coaches, inspirational and motivation sessions, distribution of basketball equipment and community engagement on different issues.
