Young Africans Sports Club president Eng. Hersi Said has arrived in Uganda to push through Allan Okello’s long-anticipated move from Vipers SC, a deal that now looks closer than ever.
The Yanga boss flew in on Friday and quickly held talks with Vipers president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa as the Tanzanian champions closed in on one of Uganda’s brightest talents. Sources close to the negotiations say both clubs have agreed terms, with Okello also giving his nod.
If that proves true, the Ugandan international may already have played his last game for the Venoms. His appearance in the recent 2-0 win over Mbarara City now feels like a quiet goodbye as the switch to Dar es Salaam gathers pace.
Hersi Said’s hands-on involvement speaks volumes. Yanga clearly see Okello as more than just another signing, but a statement addition as they look to strengthen their CAF Champions League ambitions.
Okello joined Vipers in September 2023 after leaving Algeria’s AC Paradou and quickly became central to their success, helping the club secure both the league and the Uganda Cup. With only six months left on his contract, the timing suits all parties.
For Yanga, Okello offers creativity and vision. For the player, it is a step onto a bigger stage and a chance to follow fellow Ugandans Steven Bengo, Emmanuel Okwi, Diego Hamis and Khalid Aucho, who have all worn the famous yellow and green.
With negotiations progressing and the Yanga president on the ground, the deal feels more a question of when than if.
