Hoima City will take the spotlight when the Hoima City Stadium Arena hosts the 2026 FIBA AfroBasket U18 Zone V Qualifiers, a tournament that brings the region’s rising basketball talent closer to home.

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) confirmed that the games will run from June 14 to 20, with both boys’ and girls’ teams chasing qualification to the FIBA U18 AfroBasket finals.

Uganda returns as host with good memories. In 2024, the country staged the same qualifiers at Lugogo Indoor Arena and swept both titles through the Junior Silverbacks and Junior Gazelles.

A total of 11 nations are expected, including Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia.

In many’s eyes, taking the tournament to Hoima reflects a growing effort to spread the game beyond Kampala.
