Husina Kobugabe, Uganda’s number two seed in badminton, is on the sidelines of the 2024 Kampala International Badminton Future Series (KIBFS) to support her fellow players.

“I am here to cheer up my colleagues I hope they are good enough to win us medals, they have had fair draws to run for medals,” Kobugabe said.

She missed the registration due to a planned international Badminton camp in Europe, which unfortunately didn’t happen due to undisclosed circumstances. Uganda’s number 3 seed Gladys Mbabazi is also set to miss out for the same reasons.

The tournament, held at Lugogo Indoor Arena from September 26 to 29, features over 100 players from 19 countries. Uganda’s top seed Fadilah Shamika Rafi and seed four Tracy Naluwooza, are expected to lead the women’s team, while Muzafar Lubega is the top seed in the men’s category.

Lubega, who is partnering with Augustus Owinyi in doubles, is aiming for a medal win after the departure of his long-time partner, Brian Kasirye.

“I’m targeting a medal in singles, and I’m excited to step up and lead Augustus in doubles,” Lubega said.

The tournament has seen strong performances from Ugandan players, especially in the women’s category.
