Moses Muhangi, the president of the Uganda Boxing Federation, insists on his innocence and asserts the people behind his troubles have selfish interests, far from the crimes he is accused of.
Muhangi was sent to Luzira on May 18, 2023, on charges of forgery and uttering false documents.
It was then revealed that about Shs.3.5 million given to the Uganda Boxing Federation was not anywhere to be seen, inducing his arrest, but has since been granted bail.
“You cannot think that you are going to suppress people’s voices just because they say things that you don’t want to hear,” Muhangi said.
“My concern since as far as 2018 is the issue of funds distribution criteria at the [National] Sports Council.”
“I want to state clearly that I am an innocent person, and there’s no way the Muhangi that people have known could be involved in forging documents with a motive to embezzle $850!” he wondered.
“That is not the amount of money that would be an issue to me because that’s about Shs3.5 million; those who know me for long know that this is the kind of money that we’d go to the bar and drink beer and eat food with,” he joked.
Muhangi is set to be headed back to court on June 20, just over ten days away.
