“I was just hot at that point. I knew it was coming off – I knew it was going in from the start.”
Those were Paige Robinson’s words after sinking the game-tying three-pointer that helped Uganda edge Senegal 73-70 in overtime at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket on Monday.
Uganda trailed 58-61 in the final seconds when Robinson stepped up and nailed a deep three to send the game to overtime, igniting the crowd.
“I was a little nervous starting out,” she admitted. “Senegal’s pressure is tough. But we stayed calm and settled in.”
In overtime, the Gazelles stayed composed. Mellisa Akullu, Hope Akello, and Robinson each scored three points, with Jane Asinde adding two and Perus Nyamwenge chipping in one to seal the win.
Robinson led all scorers with 19 points and added five rebounds, anchoring a gutsy team effort.
The win keeps Uganda unbeaten, following their dominant 88-51 win over Guinea. The Gazelles now top Group A with four points, one ahead of Senegal thus heading to the quarterfinals.
