As the Uganda national team for boys’ football Under-17 prepares for the World Cup kickoff, Uganda U17 coach Brian Ssenyondo has confirmed that he will resign after the team’s participation in the World Cup.
Ssenyondo said, “During the last match in Morocco, I got to talk to the FA president. I told him that this team is going to qualify for the World Cup, but I will stop my service with Uganda U17 after the major tournament.
Although he did not buy it, I wrote to FUFA requesting to stop after the World Cup, and I am glad they accepted my humble request.
Therefore, I will step aside from the U17 and wait for the next big thing or maybe the senior national team, being that my ambitions are big,” he added.
In April 2025, Brian Ssenyondo made history as the first coach to qualify a Ugandan team for a football World Cup and is set to become the first Ugandan to coach at the World Cup.
The Uganda U17 today, October 8, has kicked off their preparations for the Under-17 World Cup at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The team is in training with more than 40 players from Ugandan teams and teams abroad in preparation for the World Cup to be held in Qatar from 3rd to 27th November.
Uganda is in Group K with France, Canada, and Chile, and the team will start against Canada on the 5th, followed by Chile on the 8th, and then France on the 11th.
Going into the tournament, Uganda’s head coach, Brian Ssenyondo, has set progressing through the group as a primary target for the team in Qatar.
