The calm and skillful guard has claimed the final place on Uganda’s 12-man Silverbacks squad for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

Lubwama, who has impressed with JT Jaguars in the National Basketball League, was confirmed by the technical bench before the team heads into training camp.

Team manager Albert Ahabwe said the coaches settled on him after days of deliberation over the last vacancy.

His selection will not surprise followers of the local league.

Lubwama has grown into one of the most reliable guards on the domestic scene. His ball handling steadies the backcourt under pressure, and his ability to create his own shot gives Uganda another scoring option when games get tight.

He also brings leadership and experience from his time at JT Jaguars, qualities the Silverbacks badly need.

The road to the 2027 World Cup in Qatar will be tough. Uganda has been drawn against Mali, Angola and Egypt in a demanding group.

After a disappointing 2025 AfroBasket campaign, the Silverbacks know there is little room for error.

Only five of the 16 African teams in the qualifiers will secure a place at the global tournament.
