Is Walusimbi the much needed presence in KCCA’s backline?

KCCA FC have made a bold move by signing experienced defender Enock Walusimbi on a two-year deal.

The former URA FC captain joins the 13-time league champions as a free agent, becoming their fourth signing after former teammate Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Lazaro Bwambale, and Herbert Achayi.

The transfer comes during a squad overhaul. KCCA have released Isa Mubiru, Steven Munguchi, Mustafa Mujuzi, Etienne Katenga, and Bright Anukani, while extending contracts for Filbert Obenchan, Umar Lutalo, and João Gabriel. The shake-up is aimed at fixing last season’s biggest flaw defensive instability.

At 25, Walusimbi brings leadership and resilience. He rose through Bright Stars and Express FC, captained URA, and had a stint in Scotland with Peterhead.

His aerial presence, composure, and organizational skills make him a natural anchor for a defence that often looked shaky.

For a side chasing league and continental success, tightening the backline is crucial. KCCA’s attacking flair has never been in doubt, but soft goals have cost them dearly.

The big question is whether Walusimbi can restore order and inspire confidence in the restructured defence.

The Lugogo faithful believe and hope he becomes the steady presence the team has lacked.

If he delivers, Walusimbi could be the missing piece in KCCA’s push to reclaim the Uganda Premier League crown.

Analytically, Walusimbi’s signing appears to address both tactical and psychological gaps after Mujuzi’s departure .

His leadership could stabilize the backline, while his versatility, comfortable both as a centre-back and full-back offers the co-coaches Jackson Magera and Brian Ssenyondo more options.

However, questions remain. Will his experience be enough to single-handedly transform a defence that has struggled collectively?

Can he adapt quickly to KCCA’s high-tempo, possession-driven style? And most importantly, will his arrival raise the performances of those around him?

The answers will unfold as the season progresses. On paper, Walusimbi’s profile fits exactly what KCCA have been missing but as football often proves, the difference between a promising signing and a transformative one lies not in reputation, but in consistent performances when it matters most.
