Uganda’s motorsport community witnessed history on Saturday as the inaugural FMU ESport Championship Series kicked off at The Fun Station, Metroplex Naalya, marking an exciting step into virtual racing.

Organized by the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), the event featured eight participants competing in WRC and F1 categories, combining speed, skill, and technology.

Using the WRC Generations game, drivers battled on a recreated Safari Rally Kenya course for a taste of top-tier virtual rallying.

Isaac ‘Jua Kali’ Katende emerged champion after dominating five of six stages, finishing with a winning time of 27 minutes, 20 seconds.

He edged Umar ‘It’s Omar’ Dauda by just 37 seconds, while Shafiq ‘The Shaq’ Matovu claimed third place and also topped the F1 category.

“This was an amazing experience,” Katende said.

“I didn’t expect it to be this competitive and fun. I hope more motorsport lovers join the next round.”

FMU Esport Coordinator Leon Ssenyange said the series is part of FMU’s plan to grow esports alongside traditional motorsport;

“This initiative is about inclusion and innovation. Our goal is to create opportunities for young people and make esports a key part of Uganda’s motorsport future.”

FMU Youth Commission member Hamza Lwanga added;

“This is one of the best things to happen to our motorsport. We’ll work hard to involve young fans, but we also need partners to support us.”

The next round of the FMU ESport Championship Series takes place in the first week of October 2025, promising another adrenaline-packed showdown as Uganda accelerates into the world of virtual motorsport.
