Coach Tolbert Onyango has this morning named the National 7s team tasked with defending Uganda’s Africa 7s crown.
Black Pirates captain Isaac Massa has made a return to the team, after inspiring the Stanbic-sponsored side to their second 7s crown.
KOBs engine room commander, Pius Ogena, also makes his return to the national side of the short code, after being away for more than 2 years.
Ogena has been part of everything good for the Blue Army, recently equalling the season try-scoring record in the Uganda premiership, shared with Justin Kimono and Allan Musoke.
The rugby cranes will be captained by the towering figure of Ian Munyani, deputized by the playmaking machine Aaron Ofoywroth.
The 2023 Africa Men’s 7s games are scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club from 16th to 17th September.
Uganda will meet with Zimbabwe, whom they dispatched on the road to winning the 2022 Men’s Africa 7s in Kampala.
Still in Pool C, Uganda will also face Burkina Faso, whom they baptized 50-00 in the group stages of the 2022 Africa 7s, before lining up against a stubborn Algerian outfit with the hope of securing Olympic representation.
Uganda defeated Zimbabwe 28-00 in the final thanks to tries from Timothy Kisiga(2), Michael Wokorach, and Ian Munyani, all converted by the reliable Philip Wokorach.
Michael Wokorach is transitioning away from the national team, as we saw him hand over the Captain’s reigns to Ian Munyani, and Timothy Kisiga is away from this team owing to professional demands.
The team is largely settled, with one debutante in Rhino’s star Davis Shimwa.
