BUL have turned to a familiar face in a bid to arrest their slide, reappointing Alex Isabirye as head coach on a two-year renewable contract. He replaces Abbey Bogere Kikomeko, who left the club twelve days ago.
Isabirye steps in at a testing point in the season. BUL are 12th in the Uganda Premier League with 10 points from 11 matches, and the message is clear, results must improve.
His return begins immediately, with his first league match away to Calvary set for January 7, 2026.
For BUL, this is a return to what once worked. Isabirye first coached the club in 2015/16, then came back in April 2021 and oversaw the most successful spell in its history.
BUL won the Uganda Cup, qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time and made their mark beyond Uganda’s borders.
Those achievements paved the way for his move to Vipers SC in March 2023, where he delivered a league and Uganda Cup double in the same season.
His career also includes league success with URA FC, Uganda Cup wins with SC Victoria University, and stints at Nyamityobora, Kyetume, Busoga United, Tooro United, Express FC, Somalia’s Horseed and the Buganda Province side in the FUFA Drum.
Back in Jinja, Isabirye is expected to work with Daniel Kabale, Patrick Crespo Asiku and Kenneth Magada, with the rest of his full technical team to be named later.
