Uganda Cranes have had final rehearsals for their 2025 AFCON qualifier against South Sudan at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 PM on Friday, 11 October, 2024.

The Cranes will seek to use home advantage to win the derby against their neighbours and light up their chances of making it to the Morocco hosted edition.

Speaking to the Media at Namboole, Put said “It is going to be a very difficult game, derbies are always hard but I am very confident that we have prepared our players to deal with every game situation.”

Team captain, Khalid Aucho, called on Ugandan fans to come out in force and support the Cranes: “Playing South Sudan won’t be easy. We need our fans more than ever to empower us.”

The last time these two teams met, South Sudan defeated Uganda 1-0, a game which the former hosted in Kenya. However, Uganda has a strong historical record against South Sudan, with four wins and one draw in their previous six encounters.

Currently, Uganda leads Group K of the AFCON qualifiers with four points picked from a 2-0 win over Congo Brazzaville and a 2-2 draw against South Africa.

On the other hand, South Sudan sits at the bottom of the group having fallen to Congo Brazzaville and South Africa in the last international break.
