As the sun sets over the Moroccan city of Marrakech tonight, the Uganda Cranes will step onto the pitch with a mixture of anticipation and determination.

Awaiting them under the stadium lights at Stade de Marrakech Annexe is one of Africa’s most formidable footballing forces, Cameroon.

But amidst the tactical drills and pre-match focus, one player’s excitement is palpable.

Jordan Obita, the versatile left-sided player from Hibernian FC in Scotland, is relishing the prospect of donning Uganda’s national colours for the first time.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Uganda Cranes,” Obita shared after the team’s final training session.

“The reception has been great and I’m looking forward to possibly making my debut tonight. It’s an honour.”

Obita’s inclusion in the squad is part of Belgian head coach Paul Put’s broader vision during this FIFA international window to evaluate talent and build depth ahead of the Cranes’ competitive fixtures later this year.

For Obita, it is not just a debut, but a chance to contribute to Uganda’s football journey.

The Cranes arrived in Morocco on Tuesday and have since undergone three intensive training sessions under Put’s watchful eye. Despite the limited time together, the coach is upbeat about the team’s readiness.

“I’m very satisfied with the players’ work ethic and tactical discipline,” Put noted.

“We know Cameroon is a strong opponent, but this is exactly the kind of challenge we want. It’s an opportunity to test ourselves and see where we stand.”

Tonight’s friendly, kicking off at 11 PM (EAT time), is the first of two matches the Cranes will play in Morocco, the second being against Gambia on Monday, June 9.

Both games are designed to fine-tune the squad and provide valuable international exposure.
