Ugandan midfielder Ivan Irinimbabazi put in a stellar performance over the weekend, helping his Greek club Pierikos secure a crucial 2-0 victory against rivals Svoronos in the Gamma Ethniki Group 2 league.
The young midfielder set up the opening goal and played the full match against the second-placed team. This win has pushed Pierikos up to fifth position, just eight points behind league leaders Ethnikos Neou Keramidiou.
Speaking to Nnalubaale Sports, Irinimbabazi expressed his delight with his playing time and the welcoming environment at Pierikos.
“I’m grateful for the assist and playing the whole game, but the most important thing is the win,” he began.
“Since joining, everyone has been supportive and shown me love, which has helped me adapt quickly. My goal is to contribute to the team’s success and help us achieve promotion,” he concluded.
Irinimbabazi has already made six appearances for Pierikos since his transfer from Ugandan side Soltilo Bright Stars earlier this year.
However, the young talent will now temporarily leave Greece to join the Uganda Hippos squad competing in the 2023 All Africa Games in Ghana, scheduled for early March.
