Uganda’s long-distance star Jacob Kiplimo delivered a commanding performance to win the 2025 Chicago Marathon on Sunday, clocking 2:02:23, the seventh-fastest time in history and a new Ugandan record.
Kiplimo, known for his calm focus and lethal finishing kick, ran a perfectly timed race.

He stayed close to the leaders early on, shadowing defending champion John Korir before surging ahead just after the halfway mark.
Once in front, the 24-year-old pulled clear with remarkable control, briefly flirting with world-record pace before easing slightly in the closing miles.
Even so, he finished well ahead of his challengers, Kenya’s Amos Kipruto (2:03:54) and Alex Masai (2:04:37).
The win adds another jewel to Kiplimo’s growing legacy, coming only months after his silver finish at the London Marathon, where he also broke the Ugandan record with a 2:03:27 run.
His Chicago triumph has drawn widespread praise, cementing his place among the world’s elite and marking another proud moment for Ugandan athletics.
