Jinja Hippos Rugby Club has officially announced the cancellation of two key fixtures this weekend due to financial constraints.
Club chairman Joshua Wakabi confirmed the decision in a letter addressed to the Tournament Chairman, Tournament Manager, Black Pirates RFC, and Thunderbirds RFC.
According to Wakabi, the Hippos’ side will not be able to face Black Pirates on Saturday, March 8, while their affiliate team, Nile Rapids will also be unable to honour their fixture against Thunderbirds RFC.

“Due to unforeseen financial constraints over the last 12 months, Jinja Hippos Rugby Club finds itself in a position where we are unable to proceed with the planned games,” Wakabi stated.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we have explored all possible avenues to avoid this outcome.”
He expressed regret over the disruption but reaffirmed the club’s commitment to fulfilling future fixtures once their financial situation stabilizes.
Despite the financial struggles, the senior men’s side, Jinja Hippos, will most likely honour their fixture against Black Pirates this Saturday at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.
