- JKL Dolphins 78-64 KIU Rangers
JKL Lady Dolphins proved why they’re defending champions, pulling away late to beat KIU Rangers 78–64 in a spirited National Basketball League clash on Wednesday night at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.
The win not only gave JKL bragging rights but also pushed them to the top of the table with 33 points, having won 15 of their 18 games.
KIU started strong, ending the first quarter 21–19 ahead, thanks to a buzzer-beating three from Fildauce Namulema. But JKL answered in the second.
Agatha Kamwada’s back-to-back threes sparked a 6–0 run that swung the momentum, giving the Dolphins a 35–30 halftime lead.
Ines Kanyamuneza brought KIU back into it in the third quarter with consecutive triples to tie the game at 50.
But JKL closed the period ahead, 56–53, and never looked back. They dominated the fourth quarter 22–11, showing poise and experience down the stretch.
Hope Akello powered the Dolphins with a dominant double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds.
For KIU, Sharon Kirabo fought hard with 11 points and 11 boards, but it wasn’t enough to stop the second-half slide.
The Rangers clearly missed head coach Julius Lutwama, whose absence was felt during key moments, especially as the game slipped away.
At Abja Park, KCCA Leopards triumphed over UPDF Lady Tomahawks 73-61.
