Uganda Cranes are braced for their toughest Group C test against Nigeria, a match that will decide their fate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Defender, Jordan Obita has been central to a patched up backline after injuries and absences thinned Uganda’s options.
Elio Capradosi was sidelined through injury, while Timothy Awany was unavailable for personal reasons, forcing changes in the opening two games.
Obita stepped in against Tunisia and Tanzania, carrying the weight of a defence still finding its balance.
Uganda have conceded four goals, but Obita sees a team that is standing firm, not falling apart.
Ahead of Tuesday’s showdown, his message was simple and confident. “The team spirit is very high,” he said.
“We had a big chance to win the last game and missed it, but we keep working, training and preparing. We know we have to go into this game looking for a win.”
The equation is clear. Nigeria have already sealed top spot with six points. Tunisia are second on three, Tanzania third on one and Uganda bottom, also on one.

Only a win over the Super Eagles will keep the Cranes alive, with the possibility of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams, something they last achieved at AFCON 2019.
For Obita, fear has no place. “We cannot go into the game with any fear,” he said. “We have to go in with full belief, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Uganda face Nigeria on Tuesday, December 30, at the Fez Stadium, kicking off at 7:00pm EAT, with Tunisia and Tanzania playing at the same time.
