Uganda’s young table tennis sensation Joseph Sebatindira has written his name into the history books after winning the 2025 ITTF World Hopes Challenge in Sheffield, England, a triumph that makes him the World Number One in the under-12 boys’ category.
Sebatindira defeated Jacob Kordus of the United States 2–0 in the best of three final, capping off a dominant campaign that showcased his exceptional skill, composure and determination.
It was a moment of redemption for the 12-year-old, who narrowly missed out on the title last year in Paraguay.
One year later, he returned stronger and more focused, this time conquering the world stage with a flawless performance.
Under the guidance of coaches Alvin Katumba and Tendo Mary Balyewunya, Sebatindira was a model of consistency throughout the week-long event, outclassing top talents from across the globe.
Meanwhile, fellow Ugandan Patience Anyango impressed in her debut appearance, finishing eighth in the girls’ category.
Japan’s Kaede Neya claimed the girls’ title, with Zhi Yu Eng (Malaysia) and Olivia Wang (Canada) completing the podium.
