Uganda Badminton Association’s Assistant General Secretary Joshua Muguluma has emphasised the importance of the National School Championship.

The Championship, ongoing at Lugogo Indoor Arena started on Friday, 13th June and will run on until Sunday, 15th June.

Over 350 students in age grades under 10, 13, 15 and 19, both boys and girls from over 20 schools, are participating in the competition sponsored by Kansai Plascon.

Speaking to the media, Muguluma said; “Most of our past stars have been coming from schools, but we have gone some years without competition based on schools alone, which has been limiting the entrances of the new players.”

The last Schools Badminton Event organised by Uganda Badminton Association was held in 2019 but ever since the COVID-19 outbreak, there has been no schools competition.

The return of Schools Badminton has attracted the return of St Janan School into sports while Gayaza Junior registered the first appearance in the sport.
