Crested Cranes striker Juliet Nalukenge has completed her move to Mexican top-flight side Atlas FC Femenil, sealing a long-awaited transfer after earlier negotiations with Mexican clubs failed to materialize.
The 21-year-old goal poacher signed a one-year contract and was unveiled on Sunday by the Guadalajara-based club. She expressed her excitement and readiness to make an impact.
“I’m excited to join a professional club like Atlas. I already love the place and I’m ready to give my best. I’m known for scoring goals, and I’m here to do just that,” Nalukenge said.
Atlas FC Femenil, currently 12th in the Liga MX Femenil standings, face Mazatlán FC on Tuesday, September 2, where Nalukenge is expected to make her debut.
Her move comes after an impressive spell with Turkish side 1207 Antalyaspor, where she helped secure the club’s promotion to the Turkish Women’s Super League last season, further cementing her status as one of Uganda’s brightest football exports.
Nalukenge rose to prominence in 2019 when she was named Uganda’s Female Player of the Year following her standout performances with the U17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes.
She now becomes the second Ugandan female footballer in Mexico, joining compatriot Sandra Nabweteme of Santos Laguna, a move that marks another significant step forward for Ugandan women’s football on the global stage.
