Juliet Nalukenge announced her arrival in Mexico in the best way possible with a match-winning goal.
The Ugandan striker came off the bench to score her first goal for Atlas Femenil in a thrilling 4–3 victory over Pumas UNAM in the Liga MX Femenil on Sunday.
With the game tied at 3–3, Nalukenge entered in the 79th minute, replacing Sanjuana Muñoz. It was a bold call by the Atlas technical team and it paid off.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time, the 2021 CECAFA U-20 MVP met a precise cross from Maritza Maldonado and calmly slotted home, sending the home fans into wild celebration.
The goal was more than just a personal milestone; it was a reward for Nalukenge’s patience.
Since joining the Mexican side earlier this season, she had made only five appearances, all as a substitute, totaling 75 minutes of play.
Her perseverance has finally paid off and this could be the start of a bright new chapter for the former Kawempe Muslim and Apollon Ladies star.
The win keeps Atlas Femenil in fine form, with five wins, one draw, and one loss in their last seven matches as they continue to climb the Liga MX Femenil standings.
Nalukenge and her teammates return to action on Thursday, October 16, against Club América and all eyes will be on Uganda’s star to see if she can build on her heroic moment.
