NEC FC earned a hard fought 1-0 win over relegation threatened UPDF FC in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, thanks to a decisive strike from Ronald Media Innocent.

Head Coach Badru Kaddu praised his team’s character and the impact of substitutes. “We struggled in the first half, but were much better in the second,” he said.
Kaddu highlighted the changes that turned the game, including the introduction of Emmanuel Kulanga, Pius Obuya, and Media Innocent, who replaced Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte.
“We brought on players who made a difference. I thank them for their work,” he added.
On missing key players like Seremba and Basangwa, Kaddu emphasized the team’s depth.
“Even if you lose one player, others can step up. Pius and Media performed well and got the result.”
Regarding new signing Kayongo Ssekamatte, Kaddu said, “He’s been fighting hard. We substituted him, but he’s still a good player and a league scorer.”
The win lifts NEC to seventh with 27 points, while UPDF remain 15th on 12 points, still facing relegation danger. Kaddu is already focusing on the next game.
“We have two days to prepare for Lugazi away. The boys will fight to get a result that pushes us up.”
