Newly promoted Eastern Uganda team, Kakira Simbas Rugby Football Club, will be wearing a new kit for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
The club, based in the sugarcane town, launched the jerseys that will usher them into the top-tier 15s competition after earning a promotion this year.
A true representation of their roots, the green, yellow, and black striped jersey was launched yesterday at Pombe Stores in Kirinya.
Kakira’s Director of Rugby, Saidi Atibu, shared the story behind the design, saying, “The green represents sugarcane, while the yellow represents the sugar, which is the finished product.
He added that the club is proud of its origins in a sugar manufacturing area.
The replicas are already on the market.
The premium version costs $100 (well, do the maths), and another version is available for 100,000 Ugandan Shillings.
At the time of publication, the merchandise was being distributed to various outlets, including the clubhouse in Kakira. The online shop, Kakirarugbyclub.com, was already fully operational.
Kakira RFC’s Director of Finance, Titus Wambede, highlighted what buying a replica means for the club and its operations.
“Every coin put toward this has a purpose: for development and improvement, both socially and economically, for Kakira and its players.”
