Kampala Hockey Club scooped a bronze medal at the Africa Cup for Club Championships on Sunday after a 3-1 win over Gentrix.

The two sides were meeting for the second time in this competition and KHC came out top, to take home bronze.

Brian Bayuule and Allan Malit were on target as the Stallions defied the odds. Bayuule notched a brace! He opened the scoring for the Ugandan side in the 18th minute before ending the game as a contest in the 53rd minute with his second.

The two goals sandwiched Malit’s goal that came in the 27th minute.

Given how they made their way to Malawi, KHC defied odds to secure this bronze. The side had to brave a five-day-road journey to get to Blantyre.

This was the first time a Ugandan club was earning a medal at this competition. And no other Ugandan club has ever played a bronze medal match.

“We have made history! It’s an honour we’ve made it this far. Its been an exciting experience especially for the upcoming players. We have fought for each other and represented the badge very well. It’s really been a great one.”
Stanley Buwebo, one of the youngsters of the team said about their journey.

Egyptian side, Sharkia who are the record winners of this competition won gold. The side beat Kenyan side Western Jaguars 4-2 in the finals to scoop gold.
