Table leaders Kampala Hockey Club Swans go into their game against Thunders in jovial mood after signing Norah Alum from title rivals Wananchi.
The Swans are trying to win the league for the first time in their history; their performance all throughout the season has shown that intent.
With the addition of Alum who joins her siblings Lucky Akello and Winnie Alaro, they stand a higher chance of ending Wananchi’s monopoly.
Alum joins the club as the league’s fourth goal scorer with 10 goals. She joins Akello who is the current KHC top scorer with 17.
The two are expected to work hand in hand as they seek to make history for the club.
KHC leads the table standings with 26 points, but with the other title contenders Wananchi and Weatherhead facing off, on the same day, the Swans will know that this is an opportunity for them to open up a reasonable gap at the top.
Thunders who are rooted to the bottom of the table have conceded the highest number of goals (101) so the Swans should find no hardship in dispatching them.
The big game of the weekend however, will see 2nd placed Wananchi take on 3rd placed Weatherhead on Sunday.
Wananchi have 24 points to their name, Weatherhead have 23. A win for Wananchi will see them leapfrog KHC at least for a few hours as the KHC game happens later in the day.
A win for Weatherhead however, will see them accumulate 26 points, same as the table leaders, however, they will take the second spot due to their inferior goal difference.
Weatherhead Historicals against Wananchi HDF is the other women’s encounter this weekend.
