Kampala Hockey Club Swans extend lead at top of women’s hockey league

Kampala Hockey Club Swans extended their lead at the top of the National Hockey League (Women Division) to five points following their 2-0 win over Wananchi-HDF over the weekend.

Lucky Akello scored both goals for the Swans, who consolidated their position at the top of the table.

The two goals took her tally to 17, making her the second highest goal scorer in the league this season, only behind Wananchi’s Doreen Mbabazi who has 21.

The win was important for the Swans as it came on a weekend when both Wananchi and Weatherhead were out of action. The result created a five-point gap between the Swans and their title rivals.

In the other women’s game that took place over the weekend, Makerere thumped Thunders 5-0 to go level on points with Weatherhead Historicals.

Both Atim and Atuhaire bagged braces for Makerere, who remain placed second last in the table standings.

However, they are now four points ahead of Thunders who are rooted to the bottom of the table.
