Kampala Hockey Club opened their campaign at the Africa Cup for Club Championships in Blantyre, Malawi with a resounding victory despite enduring a 2,400km journey.

The Stallions arrived in Malawi on Sunday morning, a day after the the competition had started, but despite the undeniable fatigue, they bettered the Scorpions from Malawi, beating the side 3-1.

KHC had a very good start to the game. As early as the 2nd minute, Brian Bayuule put them in front.

James Mugisha then made it two, three minutes later, but despite Alex Malili halving the deficit for his side in the second quarter, Dulf Musoke put the game to bed for the Ugandan club in the 44th minute.

Defender Brian Ssekitoleko says they were able to win because they stuck to the basics.

“We tried to play the basics. We played very simple, get the ball and pass it, spread across the pitch, play wide, attack our opponents in the D and take our chances.”

KHC will return to action on Monday against neighbors Western Jaguars from Kenya.

After Monday’s game, the Stallions will face three other teams including 12-time champions Sharkia from Egypt.
