The draws for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA region qualifiers were conducted on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt.
Uganda’s representatives Kampala Queens FC were drawn in Group A alongside Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (C.B.E), FC F.A.D (Djibouti), Buja Queens (Burundi), and Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan.
Tanzania champions JKT Queens were drawn in Group B alongside Vihiga Queens (Kenya), AS Kigali (Rwanda), and New Generation of Zanzibar.
The tournament will be played between August 12 and 30, 2023, in Uganda. MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo and FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru have been confirmed as the two host venues.
The 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League will be the third edition of the competition. Vihiga Queens and Simba Queens are the only two teams to have won the CECAFA region title and represented East Africa in the final tournament.
Kampala Queens are aiming to become the first Ugandan team to qualify for the final tournament. Lady Doves and She Corporate missed out in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
The winner of the CECAFA region zonal qualifiers will represent East Africa in the final tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
