In a closely fought National Basketball League (NBL) clash, Kampala Rockets edged KCCA Panthers 78-75 in a nail-biting encounter at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday night.
The Rockets came out firing, racing to a 22-12 first-quarter lead, applying early pressure on the Panthers. However, KCCA found their rhythm in the second period.
Led by Stephen Otoa, whose layup tied the game at 37-37 just before halftime, the Panthers clawed their way back into contention.
After the break, the Rockets reasserted control, establishing a 62-55 lead by the end of the third quarter.
The final period was a tense affair as both sides battled for supremacy, but the Rockets held their nerve to seal a three-point victory.
Puati Ozias Kikomba was the standout performer for the Rockets, delivering a dominant double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Joseph Wacha and Juf Mpiya also played pivotal roles, contributing 14 points each.
For the Panthers, Davis Assimwe shone brightly with a game-high 24 points, while Toussaint Mampuya (13 points) and Emmanuel Odongkara (12 points) also impressed in double digits.
