Namuwongo Blazers slipped to their second consecutive defeat of the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season, falling 65-60 to a fired-up Kampala Rockets side on Sunday evening at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Still reeling from an opening loss to UCU Canons, the Blazers hoped to rebound but ran into a determined Rockets team eager to bounce back from their own 69-55 defeat to JKL Dolphins just a day earlier.

The Rockets came out firing, taking a 22-15 lead in the first quarter and stretching it to 42-27 by halftime. Despite a second-half push by the Blazers who outscored their opponents in both the third and fourth quarters, the early gap proved too wide to close.

Brian Opio powered the Rockets with 22 points, owning the paint throughout. Mpiya Juf added 10 points, while Christian Ndibu and Puati Kikomba dominated the boards with 13 and 14 rebounds respectively. Ndibu also contributed 9 points.

Innocent Ochera led the Blazers with 13 points, and Tonny Drileba chipped in 10, but their efforts fell short.

Despite the setback, the Blazers stay top of the standings, while the win lifts the Rockets to fourth with 11 wins from 18 games.
