Last season’s National Hockey League winners in the Women’s Division, Kampala Swans, made it two wins in two following a commanding 6-0 win against Makerere over the weekend.
Winnie Alaro‘s hat-trick and Sanne Swinkels‘ brace led the offensive charge for the Swans, with Norah Alum adding another goal in the 44th minute. This win follows their impressive 14-1 thrashing of Thunders the previous weekend.
KHC are the early pace setters, but Weatherhead recorded their own comprehensive win. Weatherhead sat out the opening weekend after their game against rivals Wananchi was postponed, but they thrashed Thunders 11-0 on Saturday.
Hildastar Balondemu opened the scoring in that game in the 3rd minute and went on to add two more as she notched her first hat-trick for the season, while Anitah Atim and Sonia Nafuna chipped in three and two goals, respectively.
Weatherhead have played just one game, but their superior goal difference elevates them to the second position in the league.
It was an unfamiliar start for Wananchi though. The record winners had to toil to go past their sister club Wananchi HDF. Teopista Anyango‘s double secured a narrow 2-1 victory for Wananchi in this sibling rivalry.
The remaining fixture saw Deliverance and Weatherhead Historicals play to a 1-1 draw.
Thunders remain glued to the bottom of the table with a negative 24 goal difference after two big defeats.
