With the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) fast approaching, Uganda Cranes captain Milton Karisa has called on fans to back the team as they begin preparations for the continental tournament they will co-host.

Speaking after the team’s first non-residential training session on Monday, June 23, at Luzira Prisons Grounds, Karisa expressed confidence in the squad’s spirit and readiness.

“We’ve started training and everything looks good. I promise our fans the best,” said the Vipers SC forward.

“I urge them to rally behind us.”

All summoned players were in attendance, underscoring the team’s unity ahead of what could be their most pivotal CHAN appearance yet.

The tournament, postponed to 2025, will be hosted jointly by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Tanzania will host the opener on August 2, Uganda the third-place playoff, and Kenya the final on August 30.

Uganda has been drawn into a tough Group C alongside Algeria, South Africa, Guinea, and Niger.

Despite six past appearances, the Cranes have never advanced beyond the group stage, a barrier they hope to break with the home crowd behind them.
