Crested Cranes goalkeeper Vanessa Edith Karungi has raised concern over the national team’s long absence from international football, saying the players are ready but left waiting.
Writing on her X account, the FC Nordsjælland player described the situation as a “long vacation,” noting it has been over a year without a match.
“It’s been a while… maybe more than a year, with no international games. I believe all the players are ready and just waiting for that call-up,” she wrote.
The Crested Cranes last played in November 2024 against Algeria. Since then, they have missed several FIFA windows, while other teams stay active.
Head coach Sheryl Botes is yet to lead the team in any recent fixtures. Meanwhile, South Africa women’s national football team have already lined up friendlies, including games against Japan, as they prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has not communicated plans for the team. A reported friendly against Egypt also remains unclear after failing to materialize.
With four FIFA windows still available this year, time remains but for now, the Crested Cranes are still waiting.
