With energy high and eyes on the prize, Uganda’s U20 women’s volleyball team is in Yaoundé, Cameroon, for the 2025 Africa U20 Women’s Championship, running August 2–12.
Team captain Katreena Odermatt summed up the team’s spirit after their final training at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
“Everyone’s excited and grateful to be here. We’ve worked hard and we’re ready,” she said. “Being named captain is a big honor, and I’m proud to lead such an amazing group.”
The team, led by head coach Waguma Sadat and assistants Mariam Nakamanya and Apollo Namanya, will fly out Saturday morning after a flag-off ceremony at the National Council of Sports on Friday. International referee Abdallah Kanyago joins the technical bench, with Tonny Peter Lakony as head of delegation.
Odermatt also thanked the many people behind their journey. “We love our fans, and we’re grateful to everyone, our parents, NCS, and coaches for helping us get here. We promise to raise the flag high.”
The 11-player squad includes standout names like Zoe Chang, Nabatanzzi Mary, and Mariam Mohammed, Uganda’s hope for a strong tournament run.
