As the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association qualifiers heat up at the zonal level, the Kawempe Zone in Kampala District decided on its representatives through a single round-robin format with five games played among eight schools. The games took place at Kawempe Muslim SS and Highland SS.

By the end, three schools—Kawempe Muslim SS, Kazo Hill College, and Caltec Academy Makerere—emerged as the top three to represent the zone at the Kampala Region tournament, which will take place in mid-April at Lubiri SS and Uganda Martyrs in the Lubaga Zone.

Kawempe Muslim continued to dominate the zone by defending the trophy for the third straight time, collecting 17 points out of a possible 21 to finish two points above Kazo Hill, while Caltec Academy Makerere finished third with 12 points.

In the closing game, Kawempe Muslim SS fought back from a goal down. Wahab Miiro put Kazo Hill in the lead at halftime with a beautiful header, but Stephen Bukenya equalized with a skillful effort after running onto Ramathan Ssali’s diagonal pass from the right flank and placing it into the right post from a distance.

With both Wahab Miiro and Stephen Bukenya finishing as joint top scorers, Miiro took the golden boot, while Bukenya, who had better performances aside from the goals, won the player of the championship accolade. Kawempe Muslim SS Goalkeeper Edrine Musanje won the glove award after conceding only four goals in seven games.

Meanwhile, Makerere College School’s team showed integrity and ended up winning the fair play award after failing to qualify for the Kampala Region, finishing far from third place.
