Kawempe Muslim took home the two most prestigious trophies of the Buganda Schools Championship 2025 as they repeated a record they set in 2023.
To win both the Nabagereka and Kabaka Cup, Kawempe Muslims defeated Uganda Marty’s high school Lubaga and Buddo Secondary School in finals played at Kawanda SS on Sunday, March 16.
To win the Nabagereka Cup, Docus Kisanye scored the only goal of the game in the second half to overcome fellow powerhouse Uganda Martyrs in girls’ football.
In the Kabaka Cup, Kawempe Muslim shattered Buddo Secondary School on penalties 5-3 after a 1-1 draw in normal-time play.
Ryan Ssekitoleko put Kawempe Muslim in the lead a few minutes from the halftime break when he tapped in Alvin Kitibwa’s low cross beating Buddo’s goalkeeper Sudaice Mbalire who had a touch on the ball.
A few seconds to the final whistle, Buddo SS equalised through a penalty converted by Umar Katamba after Abasi Kisambira was brought down by Ukasha Kimbowa.
In shootouts, Katamba failed to convert his spot kick to match Ssekitoleko’s opening penalty for Kawempe.
From there, players from both teams went on to score 7 consecutive penalties as Rama Ssali scored the winner for Kawempe Muslims to complete the championship on a high note.
The championship which had 9 trophies saw Kawempe Muslim and St Noa as the only teams to leave with more than one trophy but for St Noa, their trophies come in girls’ Secondary Schools Basketball and Boys’ Primary School Football.
