Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will begin their 2023/24 Uganda Women’s Super League campaign with a trip to Wakiso to play Rines SS WFC at Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium on Sunday, October 15 at 10AM.
The visitors will be looking to start the season on a winning note, having completed a double over Rines SS WFC last season.
However, the hosts will be hoping to avenge those defeats and start their own campaign with a bang.
Kawempe will be without several key players from last season, including Shakirah Nyinagahirwa, Hadijah Nandago, and Samalie Nakacwa, who have all joined Kampala Queens on loan.
Long-serving captain Aisha Nantongo has also left the club for professional football overseas.
However, they have bolstered their squad with the signing of experienced midfielder Yudaya Nakayenze, who is expected to lead the team this season.
Allen Nasazi will also be expected to play a key role in attack, with the task of hunting goals starting this Sunday morning.
Rines SS WFC will rely on their last season’s league top scorer Eva Nagayi, arguably their best player Amina Nababi, and Jesca Namanda.
Namanda proved to be a nightmare for defenders in the second half of last season, netting six goals in nine games, including a hat-trick against Asubo Ladies FC in the final league game.
Rines SS WFC head coach Bright Nyanzi Taddeo is confident that his side can beat Kawempe if they play to their game plan.
“We failed to get even a point in the two league games against Kawempe last season, but that’s past,” said Nyanzi.
“We have been training and working on mastering our tactics and I believe if the girls execute according to the game plan, we will win the game.”
