KCCA FC defeated SC Villa 2-1 at Wankulukuku stadium to register their first win away from home in the Uganda Premier League.
The Lugogo side had struggled to pick results away from home as they had lost four games and shared spoils in one game out of the five they had played.
KCCA showed intent from the first minute of the game and indeed they went on to score two goals in just 19 minutes through Etienne Katenga and Ashraf Mugume.
Villa only returned with consolation through Charles Lwanga as the first half ended in the favour of the visitors.
In the second half, both sides missed scoring opportunities and the game ended in the visitors’ favour.
KCCA FC coach Abdullah Mubiru credited the performance of his players.
“We are a team that is trying to improve and I feel we have taken a step concerning that. We have to continue working hard so that we revive our season. We know it’s not easy but we shall continue to fight for it,” noted Mubiru.
He pointed out that the victory was a huge statement to his side.
“Winning against Villa is more than results but bragging rights. This should make us do more in the next games. We have to try and register more wins before the first round comes to an end,” he added.
The victory saw KCCA move to tenth position with 13 points, six below sixth-placed Villa.
Villa coach Dusan Stonjanovic promised to see that they will bounce back.
“We created a lot of chances but we didn’t utilize but we shall work on that. The early goals we conceded also might have affected our plan. But we shall build from this in our next games,” noted Stonjanvoic.
