KCCA FC’s poor start to the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season continued on Thursday night, as they lost 2-0 to new entrants NEC FC.
This was coach Jackson Magera‘s first game in charge as interim tactician after replacing sacked Sergio Traguil.
KCCA have now gone five consecutive games without a win, losing to Kitara (3-1), Express (2-1), Maroons (2-1), and BUL (1-0) earlier in the season.

Forward Cromwell Rwothomio scored a brace for NEC, capitalizing on KCCA’s poor defense.
KCCA are bottom of the league standings with no points, having conceded ten goals and scored only three.
Coach Magera admitted that his team needs to double their efforts if they are to bounce back.

“We didn’t look good as a team,” Magera said after the game.
“We failed to live up to our expectations, making several mistakes. We shall try to improve in our next games. We need to take responsibilities.”
KCCA will now travel to West Nile to take on second-from-bottom side Arua Hill at Paridi grounds in Adjumani district on Tuesday.

NEC, on the other hand, have won four games out of their five games so far and are in third place in the league table.
Coach Hussein Mbalangu promised that his team will maintain their momentum in the next games.
“We want to continue performing well even in the next games,” Mbalangu said.

“Against KCCA, we knew that they struggle in set pieces and counter attacks. We capitalized on that.”
